My three weeks stay at Cill Rialaig artist' village in County Kerry, at the south-western fringe of Ireland, was a time of the environment.

I walked daily, in the hills, along the coast, in grave years and ancient settlements and drew and wrote and photographed. What I took in there, continues to influence my work.

Lichen, I discovered, by looking, photographing, zooming in, reading, researching, are magnificently various, ancient and enduring life forms, so they linked in to one of my constant themes, survival.
